Whenever a customer sends me a sketch of a clear folding box, the first question I ask is not about size u2014 it is about material. The sheet you choose decides clarity, strength, food safety, cost and the story your brand tells. Here is what I tell every buyer who asks about materials for clear folding boxes.
PET: The Workhorse
PET (polyethylene terephthalate) is what we use for most clear folding boxes. It is crystal clear, rigid enough to stand on a shelf, and fully recyclable. For food contact we use food-grade PET, and for sustainability-minded brands we offer RPET made from post-consumer recycled bottles u2014 identical clarity, much better story.
RPET: Recycled Without Compromise
If your retailer asks for eco credentials, RPET is the answer. It looks the same as virgin PET, costs marginally more, and gives you a genuine recycling narrative. We have shipped RPET folding boxes to cosmetic brands across Europe and North America.
PVC: Budget Option, Declining
PVC is cheaper and still used for many disposable retail boxes, but it carries disposal concerns in the EU and parts of North America. If your market is price-driven and regulation-light, PVC works. If you sell into Europe, choose PET.
PP: Flexible and Durable
Polypropylene is softer and more flexible than PET u2014 ideal for boxes that must survive repeated opening, like greeting card boxes and stationery. It is also microwave-safe, which matters for some food applications.
